Brow Lift Q & A
What is a brow lift?
A brow lift is a particular kind of face-lift that’s performed on the top half of your face, from the nose up. A brow lift, or forehead lift as it’s also known, targets the parts of your face most susceptible to deep lines and creases that make you look tired and older than you are.
Feeling unhappy with your appearance can affect your self-confidence and cause you to worry about how you look. A brow lift boosts your self-confidence, and you look and feel fresher and more positive.
Why would I need a brow lift?
Your forehead is susceptible to the effects of the aging process, which can leave you with a face that doesn’t express the emotions you’re feeling. You may look tired, angry, or worried because of the changes in your face that mean your expressions are hidden or confusing. In general, signs of aging around the brow area include:
- Frown lines
- Sagging eyebrows
- Hooded upper eyelids
- Permanently creased forehead
- Crow’s-feet
- Nose wrinkles
- Pronounced eyes
A brow lift addresses all these issues, restoring your face so that you can express your emotions clearly, and no longer look tired or older than your age.
What happens during a brow lift procedure?
A brow lift is normally carried out on an outpatient basis and takes around an hour to complete. You need to have either a general anesthetic, or a local anesthetic with sedation for the procedure so you don’t feel any pain or discomfort.
When the anesthetic takes effect, Dr. Smith makes small incisions into the skin at your hairline so he can remove any sagging skin and adjust the underlying tissues for a smooth yet natural result. To seal the wounds he uses sutures that get taken out after a week.
After your brow lift, you can expect to see a degree of bruising or discoloration and swelling, and your face may feel numb or itchy at first, which is perfectly normal. Any effects you experience should clear within 10 days.
A brow lift could make a positive difference to your self-image and restore not only your youthful appearance, but your confidence as well. Call Rick J. Smith, MD, or schedule an appointment online today.
