What to Expect With a Face-lift?

It might seem hard to believe, but the first face-lift procedures were performed over 100 years ago. Thanks to modern technology and developments in cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures, face-lifts are now less invasive and more effective than ever. People of all backgrounds and ages choose to get surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures every year for several reasons, including personal fulfillment and satisfaction and social and professional concerns.

Dr. Rick Smith and our licensed nurse injector and esthetician offer a range of plastic surgery and non-invasive cosmetic procedures at our office in East Lansing, Michigan.

What to expect before, during, and after getting a face-lift

If you’re considering a face-lift or any plastic surgery or cosmetic procedure, the first step is to schedule an appointment for a consultation. Dr. Smith and our team will discuss your goals and expectations and recommend the best procedure for your needs.

When to choose a face-lift

A face-lift tightens loose, sagging skin and the underlying tissue that supports it. Everyone ages at a different pace, and some people may benefit from a face-lift at an earlier age than others depending on factors like genetics and lifestyle. The optimal age range for a face-lift can range from the 40s to 60s, depending on the person.

If you’ve tried other anti-aging and cosmetic procedures and still have sagging, loose skin, or your normal skin care routine is no longer working, a face-lift may help you get the best results.

Schedule an appointment with Dr. Smith to find out if a face-lift is right for you.

How the face-lift surgery works

There are several options available depending on your goals and cosmetic needs. You’ll be placed under local or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Smith will create a few subtle incisions to stretch and tighten the underlying muscles that support your skin. Next, he will tighten the loose and saggy skin around your face and neck.

In addition to the basic face-lift procedure, Dr. Smith may also recommend fat grafting or laser resurfacing to make your skin look more youthful.

What to expect after a face-lift

Everyone heals at a different rate, but some bruising and swelling is normal after your face-lift surgery and usually heals within a few weeks after the procedure. As you recover, it will take a few months to see the full effects of your face-lift, usually within four to six months.

Before your face-lift, Dr. Smith and our staff will give you detailed pre- and post-op instructions explaining what you can expect, and how to take care of yourself after your facelift for the best results.
